Roadway Raising & Support

STOP ROADWAY SETTLEMENT BEFORE IT HAPPENS. TUNNELING OPERATIONS CAUSE SOIL LOSS, THE MAIN CAUSE OF ROADWAY SETTLEMENT IS PREVENTABLE USING COMPENSATION GROUTING TECHNIQUES.

  • PIPE JACKING
  • ROADWAY SETTLEMENT
  • PAVEMENT RAISING
  • COMPENSATION GROUTING

Roadway settlement most often is caused due to tunneling operations for utility instillations. Pipe jacking and slick line pipe instillations create voids around the circumference of their casings and due to excess soil loss. Voids start at the depth of the casing elevation at times far beneath a roadway and as the soils above collapse, it creates an upside down pyramid shape cone of loose soil. These voids created in the soil can occur quickly or take weeks to reveal themselves. Soil types can also determine if the voids remain deep or elevate themselves directly below the roadway surface and their widths.

Corrective measures begin by filling the voids followed by a soil densification process called Compaction Grouting. Since the parameters of the pyramid zone influences is unknown, grouting typically begins at the perceived center of influence and moves outwards and parallel to the casing below. Grout pressures and volumes pumped give indication of soil density and dictate the elevations, location, and volumes requires and all carefully documented.

When required, settled slabs can be uniformly heaved to original elevations using the Compaction Grouting technique and closely monitored using laser monitoring devices. Compaction Grouting has a long and successful history of roadway, or pavement raising and soil densification.

However, often times to avoid the effect caused by tunneling operations, municipalities, highway departments, rail roads, and Owners specify the use of Compensation Grouting to offset the effects of soil loss.
