Buried electric and fiber optic lines are sealed with numerous plastic and vinyl wraps to inhibit water infiltration and protect the wires. Although the metal conduits wires travel through are not designed for long term water exposure.
Conduit replacement due to corrosion is expensive and potentially damaging to existing and new cable runs on sharp metal edges. Water can enter the conduits through threaded joints or where original sealants fail to keep ground water out of conduits.
Lincoln Company seals conduit leaks using a variety of products for water stop and conduit sealing for abandonment. Often times expanding hydrophilic foams are used in their weak form should future cable removal be anticipated.
